A sequel to "Winning Endgame Technique", in which two players discuss grandmasterly strategies. The endgame is the crucial final phase of a chess game, yet many players remain largely untrained in this area. Recommended reading for the serious improver. - Winning Endgame Technique was very user-friendly as endings books go and is undoubtedly a good way to begin studying the ending. I do feel that reading it before Winning Endgame Strategy will help readers but this is not really essential. The latter is much more dense with far more examples included but does cement the ideas provided in the former whilst also taking some of them further as well as presenting many more plans. Undoubtedly the authors' aim was quite ambitious and although they have not fully met it, which is almost impossible, they have made a good stab at it. Readers will definitely find many important ideas and plans here of which knowledge will bring in extra points. Rook endings and Knight endings are both well covered but some chapters are really too small to be chapters in their own right, such as 'shouldering' in King and pawn endings, whilst other chapters, such as on complex endings with more than one type of piece on each side, make interesting reading on endings rarely covered.
